Books on Pregnancy

The Pregnancy Journal; A Day-To-Day Guide to a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy - The first of its kind to combine practical information with beautiful design in a keepsake format, The Pregnancy Journal will reassure mothers-to-be about their babies' developmental stages and provide room for expectant parents to record the thoughts, experiences, and joys of pregnancy.

The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know From America's Baby Experts - The Pregnancy Book is an excellent all-in-one guide to pregnancy from William and Martha Sears, creators of the concept of "attachment parenting." Each of the book's chapters represents a month, and deals with physical and emotional changes, describes the growth of the fetus, and discusses common concerns. The authors also focus on nutrition, exercise, information and support for home births and birthing centers, traveling while pregnant, how to avoid episiotomy, and so on. The approach is gentle, thorough, and includes more information than some month-by-month guides, which makes The Pregnancy Book an excellent choice for pregnant couples.

The Birth Book: Everything You Need to Know to Have a Safe and Satisfying Birth - In The Birth Book: Everything You Need to Know to Have a Safe and Satisfying Birth, William and Martha Sears, authors of The Baby Book and creators of the concept of "attachment parenting," here turn their attention to the birth experience. In this helpful resource guide, the Searses cover the gamut of possibilities, and teach readers what they need to know to take control of their own birthings. The Birth Book is divided into three parts: "Preparing for Birth," "Easing Pain in Labor," and "Experiencing Birth." You'll find details about vaginal births; cesareans; VBACs; water births; home births; best birthing positions; drugs; pain; how to design your own birth plan; the humor, chemistry, and sexuality of birth; and pages and pages of birth stories.

My Pregnancy: A Record Book - (Review) I bought this book after having the Wedding book from the same series given to us when we got married. I recommend all the record books by Havoc publishing - they are all wonderful. This pregnancy record book was very easy to fill in and fun to do. It has lots of placed to record all the wonderful moments in your pregnancy and they are fun to look back on. I've already bought another for our next baby! My friends have really loved it too and bought it for themselves. Great keepsake! I haven't found anything else that is as thorough and easy to put together.

The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two

Brought thoroughly up-to-date-with the latest information on everything from diapering to daycare, from midwifery to hospital "birthing rooms," from postpartum nutrition to infant development-THE BABY BOOK remains the one must-have resource for today's new parents. In this perennially bestselling and encyclopedic guide, Dr. Bill and Martha Sears draw from their vast experience both as medical professionals and as parents to provide authoritative, comprehensive information on virtually every aspect of infant care. THE BABY BOOK focuses on the essential needs of babies-eating, sleeping, development, health, and comfort-as it addresses the questions of greatest concern to parents today.

On Becoming Baby Wise: The Classic Reference Guide Used by Over 1,000,000 Parents Worldwide - (Review) I've read this book cover to cover and it reiterates flexibility through out; even cites examples. I've also read several reviews of this book and I don't understand where the "cruelty" lies in following these guidelines. It is clear that Ezzo recognizes and supports a child's need to be nurtured, cuddled, etc. I have used this method with my daughter since 6 weeks and she is a well-adjusted, secure and extremely happy 14 month old...who eats well and rarely makes a peep when going down for a nap or at bedtime! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with sleep and/or feeding issues.

The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night - There are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out," or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. If you don't believe in letting your baby cry it out, but desperately want to sleep, there is now a third option, presented in Elizabeth Pantley's sanity-saving book The No-Cry Sleep Solution. Pantley's successful solution has been tested and proven effective by scores of mothers and their babies from across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Based on her research, Pantley's guide provides you with effective strategies to overcoming naptime and nighttime problems. The No-Cry Sleep Solution offers clearly explained, step-by-step ideas that steer your little ones toward a good night's sleep--all with no crying.

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby - When Tracy Hogg’s Secrets of the Baby Whisperer was first published, it soared onto bestseller lists across the country. Parents everywhere became “whisperers” to their newborns, amazed that they could actually communicate with their baby within weeks of their child’s birth. Tracy gave parents what for some amounted to a miracle: the ability to understand their baby’s every coo and cry so that they could tell immediately if the baby was hungry, tired, in real distress, or just in need of a little TLC. Tracy also dispelled the insidious myth that parents must go sleepless for the first year of a baby’s life–because a happy baby sleeps through the night. Now you too can benefit from Tracy’s more than twenty years’ experience. In this groundbreaking book, she shares simple, accessible programs.

There's A Baby in the House: Preparing your Dog for the Arrival of your Child - This book is the product of years of working with expecting dog owners both to resolve child/dog issues as well as to prevent them. After speaking with one person more than I cared to that was forced into surrendering their beloved family companion because they hadn’t taken measures to prevent problems I decided to put everything relevant on the subject into writing in hopes that others would not have to undergo the same ordeal.

Feeding the Whole Family: Whole Foods Recipes for Babies, Young Children & Their Parents - There are over 150 family-tested recipes using whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruit. Each recipe contains suggestions on how to transform dishes parents will love into food for babies and young children. Plus the book contains valuable insights on breastfeeding, starting solids and how to attract children to healthy eating. Feeding the Whole Family also features an extremely handy "Identifying, Shopping, & Storing Whole Foods" glossary, a complete index and delightful stories and illustrations. The book is bound with a special binding that lies flat.

Nursing Mother, Working Mother: The Essential Guide for Breastfeeding and Staying Close to Your Baby After You Return to Work - New mothers may view the involved parenting that breast-feeding requires as incompatible with commitment to a career rather than as an effective strategy for blending the two sides of their lives into a new whole. In this sensitive, insightful guide that acknowledges the concerns working mothers face, Pryor maintains that breast-feeding provides a way to bond with the baby, nurture a child's healthy growth, and gain confidence as a parent. Pryor supplements the emotional support she provides with practical tips on getting started and coping with setbacks and also with specific tasks facing working mothers, such as choosing a breast pump, integrating pumping sessions into daily work schedules, and maintaining milk supply.
